So far, we have only used practical worldly tips and psychological tricks in our quest to save $1,000, but we have a much more powerful ally in the fight. God wants us to save regularly and live with margin in our lives, so don’t think for a second that there is nothing spiritual going on here.
Proverbs 21:20 is a great place to see what God says about the matter: “In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.” In those days, oil was a commodity that could be sold in a pinch for straight cash, so the wise would keep stores of it around for when they would need it. God wants us to do the same with money, so by saving (not hoarding) we are following His will.
Pray for God to bless your efforts as you put all your trust in Him to provide. Remember, though, that He cannot bless un-blessable behavior.
